Ohio has attracted more than $900 million in new wind energy investment since 2010. There are also an estimated 7,500 wind industry jobs and 107 wind power supply chain businesses, such as AeroTorque, in the state.
Communities that host wind farms also enjoy significant investments, with Hardin County home to a planned $300 million wind farm; Paulding County home to a $175-$200 million project; and Van Wert County home to $600 million in investments, with the potential to attract $1.1 billion more.
At issue now, however, is a regulation passed in 2014 that significantly extended the distance a wind farm must be from a neighboring property-- and effectively brought wind projects to a halt in the state.
